 Pacu Jalur

    One of the biggest cultures in the Kuantan Singingi district is the Pacu Jalur. Pacu Jalur is a long boat rowing race. This competition is held on the Batang Kuantan river every year. In the past, pacu jalur were held to celebrate religious holidays such as the Prophet's birthday. But after independence, pacu jalur was held to celebrate Indonesia's independence day.

      Jalur is a large boat that made of tree wood. They can reach 25 to 40 meters in length and between 1.3-1.5 meters in width. This boat can be filled by as many as 50 to 60 rowers. In taluk kuantan this boat is called Jalur.

 

    Pacu jalur uses a knockout system. The day before, there will be a drawing event to determine the opponents who will race. Two of jalur will race after hearing the sound of the cannon from the starting place. Then the rowers will row their jalur with all their might to reach the finish point ahead of their opponent. After finishing the race, the jalur will gather in front of the finish area to hear the decision from the judges. The winning jalur will compete in the next round, while the losing jalur will no longer be able to compete. Then continue like that until we get the champion.
